Ink Meets Paper Press is a small letterpress studio located in Charleston, SC and run by husband-and-wife team Daniel and Allison Nadeau.
PRESS
Ink Meets Paper Press started in late 2008 when Allison acquired a 1920s new-style Chandler & Price platen press. Its previous owner didn’t believe letterpress was a viable option in the digital age. Nonetheless, Allison was convinced that letterpress wasn’t a dying art, and in this very digital world, people actually desired the tactile nature of a letterpress print and longed for the handcrafted, human connection in a very mass-market society.
After a brief stint in a friend’s garage, the press (all 1,200+ pounds of it) moved to its own studio and workspace in June 2009.
ALLISON
As a child, Allison was reading a book, writing a story, or involved in some type of craft project (usually involving lots of Scotch tape). Her love of words paved the way to her degree in English; however, she never lost her love of craft and art. Letterpress provided the bridge between art and words.
DANIEL
Early on in life, Daniel found a love for both technology and art. At the Savannah College of Art and Design, he was able to merge those two passions with an Industrial and Interaction Design education. During the day he’s working at Modus preaching the design gospel. At the print shop, he serves astech guru and apprentice alignment-expert.
